South Loop Community Table
South Loop Community Table (SLCT) is Care for Friends’ newest program in the South Loop! SLCT joined CFF because their community-focused ethos perfectly aligns with our Edgewater and Lincoln Park programs. SLCT is a weekly dinner party with people experiencing food and housing insecurity. We prioritize community by encouraging volunteers to sit, eat, converse, and build lasting relationships with our guests. On the flip-side, we invite our guests to volunteer and share their feedback and ideas, creating a sense of ownership and belonging in our community. We play board games, have karaoke nights, throw holiday parties, listen to live music, have a resident DJ, facilitate “mindfulness moments,” and more!
Our meal also serves as a hub for local organizations to offer wrap-around services, including:
- Free medical services via Chicago Street Medicine
- Free clothing store, via Trash People of Logan Square
- Free social work and occupational therapy, via Chicago Help Initiative, ReVive Center, and faculty and students from DePaul University and Rush University
- And More!
We meet on Sunday evenings, from September through May, from 6:45 -8:30pm. We are located at 1936 S. Michigan Avenue, at Second Presbyterian Church of Chicago. We’re powered by volunteers, and need YOU to help us throw this party every Sunday. You can sign-up to volunteer HERE, donate HERE, and reach out to learn more about cooking for us.
There are very few places in the world where anyone can show up, be accepted exactly as they are, and be treated as a full human being regardless of their housing status, ability/disability, or any other situation or identity.
South Loop Community Table is a truly magical place—but don’t take our word for it, come and see us in action!
